Blackbird

...super low power data logger

blackbird-2800

Micro Technic offers a wide variety of stand alone dataloggers whereas the Blackbird-2800 Series is one of them. The Blackbird-2800 is based on the SBC-2800 module more accessible through standard connectors and easy to use push-wire terminals. The Blackbird device is a carrier board with a SBC-2800 on top, built into an steel box. Besides all the features of the SBC module the Blackbird unit has an Ethernet connection, two parallel RS485/RS422 connections, 4 current sources, easy to use pushbuttons for power on and reset and two LED indicators.

The Blackbird device is easy to install due to several features. The unit can easily be mounted with either DIN mounting brackets (optional) or with four screws, two on each side of the box. The connections for all the digital inputs/outputs and analog inputs are placed only on one side for easy cabling. The rest of the connectors are placed on the opposite side of the box.

The SBC module within the device is based on the Atmel AT91SAM9G20 microcontroller, 32 MB RAM and 8 MB Flash. It has a combination of several features, including a power supply, a charger for an external Li-Ion battery, a GSM/GPRS modem, a GPS receiver, 16 analog inputs, 8 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs. These functions and the software developed for the 2800 Series make this module very useful in many standalone applications.

The device is delivered with a Linux system preinstalled. It has data logging software that logs analog and digital inputs periodically or based on input events, and stores data in the internal RAM or Flash, or on a Micro SD card. The system has a web interface for configuration and data retrieval, accessible through a direct USB connection to a PC, through GPRS, or through Ethernet.

There is 16 isolated analog inputs (±10 V, 0-2.0 V or 0-20 mA), enabling data acquisition with a resolution up to 24 bits. 8 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs (all opto-isolated) allow the user to control or be controlled by auxiliary equipment.

The power supply can be backed-up by an external Li-Ion battery. A built-in charger will insure that the battery is fully charged. A power down mode with wake-up on timer or external input allows very long operation on battery power.
